What I’ve Noticed
China and India will follow the US on climate change policy, but countries like Mexico are leading the way.
Dr. Isis has an inspiring post up on being a woman in science. And believe me, we need some inspiring posts on the subject with so many “Daves” out there…
Remember, there are more than two genders.
Happy Winter Break!
I’m leaving for work at 7:30, and it’s going to be a very cold 30 minute walk today. Why so early, and the day after finals ended, too? I really love my job, but I’ve been too busy with school to get many hours in lately. So I’m in a wonderfully good mood this morning. If I had these boots, I’d wear them today. They look so warm and cheerful and a little bit silly – perfect for the mood I’m in!
Exams are over!
I’m so happy! And even though I have an awful cold, my headache is finally abating. To celebrate, I’m cleaning my house, which suffered quite a bit this week. After the amount of time I’ve spent lying in bed feeling awful or sitting at my desk frantically studying, cleaning actually sounds nice. I’m also going to cook all of the delicious veggies languishing in my refrigerator. A few of the things I’m planning on making in the next few days:
- Collard potato salad with mustard dressing
- Pasta with arugula and plum tomatoes
- Cavatelli with Italian sausage and broccoli rabe
- Roasted root vegetables with green onions
- Winter wheat soup
One of my favorite things about cooking is feeding people. So stop by soon 🙂
Finals week is almost over!
Monday, I took a statistics exam and was really glad I spent most of Sunday studying for it – I had a migraine and had to take two vicodin beforehand. At least I was pretty relaxed for the test! Tuesday, I rocked the ecology exam despite STILL having a migraine and hardly studying. Today, I took exams in genetics and discrete math. I thought I was more prepared for discrete than genetics. Then my discrete teacher chose two random proofs from the first two days of class to be the bulk of the exam. Oops… And tomorrow (the last day of finals!) is my plant morphology exam. I’m having trouble forcing myself to study for it – I’m exhausted!
To get me through just one more day, I’m imagining wearing these sassy red boots:

Migraine Log – Control Week
I wrote a few days ago that I was going to start treating my migraines again and that I’m trying a medicine called Petadolex. Today was my first day taking it. I might not see effects for 3 months, which, in my experience, is typical for migraine preventatives.
I’ve been keeping a headache journal so that I’ll be able to tell if it’s actually helping, especially if my migraine frequency is only reduced by a small percentage. I’m going to be giving weekly updates. I’ll be recording days with headache and cloudy/rainy/snowy days, which are my major migraine trigger. What I hope to see is a decrease in days with headache, regardless of the number of days with bad weather.
December 3 – December 9
Days with headache: 5
Cloudy/snowy/rainy days: 4
Feminism Tuesday
How much is a woman’s life worth? Apparently, as little as $100.
Rape as a weapon in the Congo. I would argue that it’s used to terrorize women everywhere, but the scope here is unbelievable.
