the cultural divide

Me: I do not want to live with her. She has no job and her English is poor.  I would like to live with X unless you have a serious problem with her.

Male, Chinese roommate: I will give you my decision in the morning.

My roommate would never interpret his statement as at all incorrect.  Maybe he wanted to have more time to judge X.  Maybe he felt like he didn’t have enough of a role in the decision making process and wanted to say “I still have power here.”  While this is rude by American standards and frustrating because you actually don’t know how they feel, it’s just how it works sometimes.
