What I’ve noticed

Lots of interesting science this week:

Piano

When I left home for boarding school, I stopped playing the piano.  I picked it up again this summer with the encouragement of my little brother who’s auditioning for music school soon.  Playing again has made me very, very happy.

Grand Canyon

My brother visited the other week.  It had been far too long since we’d seen each other.  I had a wonderful time with him and can’t wait for him to visit again.  While he was here, we went on a beautiful (but exhausting) hike in the Grand Canyon.  I was impressed with how well he did at this altitude.

New acquaintance: So what do you do?

Me: Theory and modeling…

New acquaintance: Oh wow, I mean you’re pretty cute, but I thought models were all tall.

Me: in ecology

Flour

I was worried about carrying my groceries home the other day, but a friend was nice enough to pick me up. This meant that I could buy whatever I wanted, not just what I thought I could carry. I might have gone a little overboard, actually. It’ll probably take me the next 6 months to use 20 pounds of flour.

I have already made the best brownies in the world and these cheesecake filled cupcakes.  I haven’t eaten any of the cupcakes since dairy=death for me, but others say they are delicious.

Red shoes

Once I realized I had enough money for school this year, I bought a pair of shoes (of course).  You will be very impressed with my restraint. I didn’t buy these even though I’ve been drooling over them since March.

I didn’t spend $360 on these beautiful, beautiful, beautiful shoes because 1) I really shouldn’t spend that much and 2) I don’t think I’d be able to bike in them.

Instead, I responsibly settled for this pair of Keens.  They aren’t too expensive and I can ride my bike and walk across campus in them.  They might not get me quite as excited as the two above, but at least they’re still red…
