It doesn't necessarily make them cruel, though - you're right. I do believe that it damages people's ability for rational thought and decision making. I believe there was another similar offshoot of gnostics (maybe the Valentians?) that believed the same thing. I've always liked Amanda Palmer's music, never really thought about her body, but that kind of shit is typical of record labels. Being a misanthrope generally, I believe people are somewhat naturally stupid and cruel, religion just gives them a way to channel this, for lack of a better word, productively. Good noticing.
